Thumbs up Kilowog from DC Direct's "Green Lantern: Rebirth"

It was tough to snag Kilowog, as he seems to be the first of the Rebirth figures to sell out after the initial shipments, but thanks to tireless efforts on my part and a "Sighting" alert I was able to grab the last one in any of the stores in my area. I think it was worth it.

Articulation
Please keep in mind, each joint I list is for one side of the figure, except for the mid-line stuff like waist and neck, etc.

Ankle – hinge (up and down)
Knee – hinge
Hip - cut-joint
Shoulder - ball-jointed
Elbow – single joint
Wrist - cut-joint
Neck – cut-joint

Sculpt
This is where the DC Direct line is still delivering outstanding product. You can read some of the debate in another Thread on these Forums, but I'm willing to set all other considerations aside just to tell you that this is a beautiful figure. He's huge, at just about 7.5" tall, and 3.5" wide (from shoulder-ball to shoulder-ball). He's easily bigger than the Darkseid figure that DCD put out several years back, makes Doomsday from the Superman line look puny, and is really in the "boxed figure" (a la Solomon Grundy and Gorilla Grodd) size range. That's a lot of plastic for a single, carded figure. The likeness is pretty spot-on, as well. This is definately the big poozer that I enjoyed reading about in Green Lantern and the Justice League. He looks like he stepped off the page and into my home.

Paint
All of the paint applications on Kilowog are really tight. I haven't found any slop on the uniform, the ring, the face, or even the stand he comes with. The lines on his GL uniform are perfect.

Accessories
Kilowog comes with a Green Lantern display stand, which is translucent green (in the shape of the ring symbol) and white. As I mentioned, the paint and plastic on the accessories is equally as nice as on the figure. He also comes with a GL power battery - for recharging his ring (the battery is pretty impressive in size and sculpt, as well). His left hand is open just enough to hang the battery from, so you can display it prominently with your figure.

Overall
I have to admit that I'm a bit biased; since I'm more of an ML and SF guy (I love the super-poseable stuff), my view on Kilowog's overall score is a bit low. He's easily an 8 or an 8.5 out of 10. He'd get the 9 or 9.5, but I really want a few more POA. Nothing major, just some bicep swivels and a cut-joint at the waist... that's not greedy, is it? Anyway, if you're into DCD, Green Lantern, or the old Justice League series (where Kilowog and G'Nort used to have prominent guest shots), then this figure is a MUST OWN. I was genuinely thrilled to get him out of the package and put him on my shelf.

Pictures!!

Re: Kilowog from DC Direct's "Green Lantern: Rebirth"

I'm stoked for pictures!

This guy I am currently waiting on as I ordered him through Krypton Collectibles. (I also preordered other items that are still waiting for a release date and I asked them to be shipped in one box...)

Yeah, this is one of the figures I am most excited for to be honest!

I definately agree about the articulation on the DCD guys! They keep getting better, but, they still have a lot of room for improvement.

Great review!

That last pic is just for you, Colirio!! Now you'll have a good idea of how imposing the figure really is. It's really great.

I've gotta second that "Thank you" to Sandy, too. He's the reason I've got Ken and Superboy (I wasn't fast enough to get Kilowog... I'll know better next time and order early).

Re: Kilowog from DC Direct's "Green Lantern: Rebirth"

Yeah, I was really pleasantly surprised at the range his shoulders afford. That's the nice thing about this sculpt. The way his shoulders are put together actually gives him quite a bit more range than the Hush Superman. If memory serves, he's even got more r.o.m. than the Superman figures in the "Return.." and JLA lines (he's just a few POA short of the Supes, though).

I'm really only disappointed with the lack of a swivel in the arms. Jakks, SOTA and ToyBiz have all gotten the bicep-swivel down to a science. Jakks has even found a way to work around it on the smaller Dragonball Z/GT figures by putting the swivel in the elbow joint. It would be really sweet if DCD would use something similar. Especially since the DBZ and GT type joint doesn't impact the sculpt at all, really.

Still, it's a great-looking, very cool figure. They've even got me thinking about going back for Hal...

He is a great figure! Im torn because Iam hoping for a DC Superheroes version of him so everything will be to scale and all. Then again, its way too early to hope for that to come to think of it.

I was able to find Kilowog at a Suncoast Video (I believe it was, anyway). He was the only figure in the initial shipments that sold out almost immediately. I found one left at the mall, and snagged him.

I'd love a more poseable version from the DC line that'ssupposed to be coming, but I'm not going to hold my breath. The big guys are my favorites... Kilowog, Solomon Grundy, Grodd, Darkseid, etc. I'm not sure how long we'll have to wait for most of them, though. I think Darkseid is planned for '07. That's just way too long to wait.
