SDCC: DC Direct Highlights

Batman: Hush series 2

DC Direct’s showroom area, sitting dead-center in the convention space, was one of the busiest areas of the entire show. Hundreds of fans at a time flocked to artist/writer signings, free comics and memorabilia, previews of upcoming issues and properties, and of course, the DC Direct display cases.

Most of DC Direct’s 2004/2005 offerings were on display at the show; however, only a few items were unveiled there.

Crisis on Infinite Earths action figures

The Crisis series 1 lineup includes Jack of Hearts Psycho Pirate, Robin, Supergirl, Monitor and Harbinger, though only the first two were actually on display (the rest were cardboard cutouts). Each figure comes on a Crisis logo base.

Batman Marionette

DC Direct’s been teasing fans with the Joker, and then with Harley Quinn – finally they’ve converted the hero into a marionette as well. Batman can now theoretically act on your mini-stage along with his greatest villain and his sidekick, assuming you’ll ever remove it from it’s packaging, and then actually try to use it as a marionette instead of a display piece. Marionette Batman will be available September of next year, for $295.

Batman/Batgirl Microman figures

Takara is making a Batgirl to accompany their Batman Microman figures! While she wasn’t on display, she was pictured in a piece of promo artwork. Further good news is that DC Direct will be directly importing and distributing the Batman Microman figures in the US, so all three figures revealed thus far should eventually be available at your local comic shop.

Constantine

There were two new items from the upcoming Constantine film, based on the Hellblazer comic, which will star Keanu Reeves as John Constantine. One is a prop replica of “The Shotgun”, the other is a statue of Keanu, er, Constantine fighting off a plague of demons.

Other items on display were:

LIKE THE SCULP OF THE ALEX ROSS FIGURES EXCEPT FOR GRANDPA SUPERMAN. WHAT'S WITH ALL THE WRINKLES? I HOPE THAT THIS IS N'T THE FINAL SCULPT.

I have to agree with ryu1702, I like the AR stuff but why did they do such an old rendition of Supes? Also, I am debating on which JLA line to collect AR or the regular stuff. I hear that the AR line will have up to 30 figs produced for it but what about the regular line and will that 30 fig line include all the JLA members? Will the regular/modern JLA line finish all the hero characters with some villians? I need to know! I can't afford to collect both lines. So I have to choose.
