Summary:
With the conclusion of the Doom Arc, this new issue starts the new six-part arc entitled “N-ZONE”. The issue opens with interesting shots of an unknown territory and a small reed Richards is talking with several scientists about an unknown region. Reed says that this new find is “fantastic.”
The scene changes dramatically showing an older reed Richards setting up another N-Zone test. He’s definitely in command of this test, he’s commanding where things need to be and what needs to be done for this to work properly. With everything in place he presses a small button and the apple that sits in the middle of the test sight.
The apple reappears with ice all over the top of it. Johnny claims the test worked but Ben doesn’t get it. Johnny leaves, and Reed explains that they just proved that you really could transport things inside the n-zone. More importantly organic material. Ben puts two and two together and realizes this means the four of them can be switched back.
Reed confirms this but also says that Johnny and Sue don’t wish to be changed back; they’re comfortable with themselves and their new powers. Sue doesn’t want to because there’s no physical change due to her powers and she’s a living contradictory to the science of light. And Johnny just basically thinks he’s extremely cool now.
Reed then explains how flaming on doesn’t burn Johnny:
“Johnny’s covered in a microscopically thin film made of little transparent plates. And they’re what make him fireproof. Fat cells under his skin go into clean nuclear fusion and jet out between the plates as hot gas—plasma. The plasma ignites on contact with the air.”
