Review - Spider-Man 2 Video Game

coverartxboxspiderman2.jpgOk, now, I realize that this game has been out for awhile now, but, since i recently had to get a new XBox cause of the old one dying, I have been replaying my games trying to resave them on my new Box.

One of the gripes I have about this game though is how short the storyline is. One of the best things about this game though is the non-storyline crime in the city that you can keep fighting time and time again!

This is one of those games that you can put in and play for 5 minutes or for 5 hours and have a blast either way.

The storyline of this game follows pretty close to the 2nd Spider-Man movie except that they threw a few extras in there. Mysterio, Rhino, Shocker, Black Cat, and some other extras are all part of the storyline mode.

The story in total only lasts about 10 hours the first time and about 6 hours the second time. However, after beating the storyline yu still have easily another 40 - 50 hours of gameplay in trying to get 100% of the game completed. There are literally HUNDREDS of hidden tokens, coins, secret hideouts, lost balloons, rewards, and all kinds of things that still have to be found and in some cases defeated before reaching 100%.

The webslinging is what makes this game. Period. I literally could spend hours just swinging around the city. The tough thing is learning it. The fun part is mastering it! Unlike previous games, you actually have to stick your webline to something in order for you to swing on it. If there is nothing around like buildings or trees in order to stick your web to something, then you get to walk.

By buying the webslinging upgrades, not only can you swing faster, you also tend to be able to launch a further distance when jumping off of a web. On the final upgrade, you find yourself going so fast that you can do loops around ledges and flagpoles with ease, clear the top of the next skyscraper when launching off a web, and going so fast through the city that you miss half the cries for help!

Webslinging also consists of being able to run short distances on the sides of buildings and walls, being able to do a myriad of flips, tricks, and glides between weblines, doing a quick webzip to change direction more quickly, use two weblines like a slingshot to launch yourself a long distance, and many other things that are difficult to learn and even more challenging to master! To help you master these things, there are several timed races and challenges placed all over the city. They have 4 different difficulty settings for these challenges including easy, medium, hard, and insane.

There's a lot to experience in this game besides the webslinging including stopping armored car robberies, gangfights, police shootouts, recapturing lost balloons for children, rescuing people from burning boats, grabbing people who are falling off of ledges, rushing injured people to the hospital, thwarting purse-snatchers and muggers, stopping car jackings and road rage, and several other things. You end up having to choose the crimes you respond to as sometimes several of them are going on at once.

To aid you in these things, you can "purchase" new moves and fighting techniques, new arial tricks, new webslinging upgrades, and several other things that make you faster and more effeicient. There are all kinds of moves to fight the baddies, but, my personal favorite has to be the ability to hang your opponents from the light poles and such! Classic Spidey!

The one last final thing that I MUST mention is that EVERYBODY need to experience climbing to the top of the highest building in this game and jumping off the top! Absolutely the most stomch-tickling experience I've had on the XBox!

All in all, this is a great game! I've been a Spidey fan my whole life and this game really sums up what it means to do whatever a spider can!

8.5 outta 10!
