Review- Marvel Legends Doc Ock

Marvel Legends Series 8 Doc Ock Review
by website member rogers_for_president

Doc Ock is one of my favorite marvel legends to date, mainly because Doc Ock has needed decent figure treatment for a long time. He also seems to be one of the short packed figures, along with Man-thing.

Sculpt:

This figure has a really nice sculpt, the head has the usual maniacal doc ock snarl/smile. It also seems to have removeable metallic blue sunglasses, which I have not attmepted to remove, due to the fact that they may not stay on as well when taken off and then replaced. He is also taller than the spider man classics/sinister six boxed doc ock (whose scale seems better suited for the old toy biz lines.) To make for the first marvel legends scale doc ock, in my opinion. His bendy tentacles are sculpted very nicely, even though some say they are un-accurate, I actually liked how they turned out in the final product, as opposed to the pictures in the promotional/prototype/back of package shots, which featured jointed, more classic looking tentacles. But overall, I think the sculpt represents a strong "classic" doc ock look.

Poseability:

The figure has ball jointed neck shoulder and hip joints. Knee, wrist finger and ankle joints. Swivel arms thigh and calves. Also toe joints, with a swiveling mid-section. And of course the bendable tentacles with endless posing possibilities. The claws on the end of the tentacles swivel at the base, and feature three separate claws on each, with two points of articulation each. The only thing I see lacking in articulation is a mid-torso joint, but perhaps it was for the better, seeing that doc ocks gut would make it impossible, or silly looking.

Playability:

This figure is perfect, because it can be posed in any way that doc ock can. He can walk on all four tentacles, stand on two of them, or hold spider man against the wall with his claws. Of course he can also stand on his "third" pair of legs if you will. The tentacles are VERY long.

Accesories:

He comes with a base that features spider web like subtance, that can either hold doc by the legs, or support two of his tentacles so that doc ock may stand on his tentacles. There is also some sort of radioactive canister in the fray. Personally I love this stand, because I have always wanted a doc ock that could stand on his tentacles.

Overall:

I would give this figure a 10. I may be being a little biased, seeing as this is one of my favorite legends villian figures, but hey. I think he is a huge improvement in scale, playability and poseability when compared to the other more recent doc ocks. Spider-man is finally getting some long deserved attention on the marvel legends front, and I think this new doc ock is a step in the right direction.
