WWC- Marvel Congratulates Wizard Fan Award Winners

The 2004 Wizard Fan Awards were announced at Wizard World Chicago on August 5th, 2005 and Marvel would like to congratulate all the well-deserving winners of the event.

“When it comes to the Wizard awards, thanks are really simple,” says Editor-In-Chief Joe Quesada. “First, thanks to the great folks at Wizard for putting on a fun show as always. Secondly, to our great creators and ultimately to all of our incredible fans who voted and made this possible.”

Marvel was announced as Favorite Publisher and it showed by the number of awards Marvel racked up, totaling winners in 17 different categories.

Astonishing X-Men was the big winner of the night taking home a whopping nine awards including Favorite Ongoing Series. The superstar creators behind the fan’s choice, Josh Whedon and John Cassaday, were honored with the awards for Favorite Writer and Favorite Penciler. Also receiving awards for their outstanding work on Astonishing X-Men were Laura Martin for Favorite Colorist and Chris Eliopoulos for Favorite Letterer.

Astonishing X-Men was also the fans’ choice for Comics’ Greatest Moment of 2004 for the return of Colossus in Astonishing X-Men #4. The cast of Astonishing X-Men was also recognized with Wolverine, Kitty Pryde, and Nick Fury being deemed the fans’ Favorite Male Hero, Favorite Female Hero, and Favorite Supporting Character.

Some of Marvel’s most talented creators were also recognized by the fans with Robert Kirkman, writer of Marvel Team-Up and Fantastic Four: Foes, being named Favorite Breakout Talent. Scott Hanna was declared the fans’ Favorite Inker for his work on Ultimate Spider-Man and the fans chose Greg Horn as their Favorite Painter. Ralph Macchio was also recognized for his outstanding efforts on editing the Ultimate titles, winning the Favorite Editor award for the second year in a row.

Marvel’s efforts in other media was also praised by the fans with Marvel winning Favorite Comic Movie Project with Spider-Man 2, Favorite Comic Video Game with Spider-Man 2, and Favorite Comic Action Figure Line with Marvel Legends.

2004 was a great year, and 2005 is shaping up to be even better! Thanks to the fans for continuing to make theirs Marvel!
