Review - Marvel Select Thanos

Marvel Select Thanos

I just ran into this figure a few days ago at a Suncoast Video. I had been wanting to see it in person before I decided whether or not to buy... the fact that I've got one for reviewing here, should tell you something.

Articulation
Please keep in mind, each joint I list is for one side of the figure, except for the mid-line stuff like waist and neck, etc.

Ankle – hinge (up and down)
Knee – hinge
Hip - ball-joint
Waist - cut-joint
Shoulder - ball-joint
Bicep - swivel
Elbow – single joint
Wrist (just behind the gloves) - cut-joint
Neck – ball-joint

MS really increased the quality and quantity of the articualtion on Thanos. He, Carnage and Symbiote Costume Spider-Man have slowly been moving toward more standard ML and SF-type articulation.

Sculpt
So far, this is (IMHO) the BEST figure that MS has produced. His size and mass are perfect for the way that he's been drawn over the years. He's really a monster of a figure; he stands 8.25 inches tall, and is just about 4 inches across from shoulder-ball to shoulder-ball. Remember, MS tends to be a larger scale (closer to 7-inch) than the Marvel Legends line. For the larger scale, he's perfect. For my ML display... he's a stand-in for now. The face sculpt and the detailing on his costume are really a knock-out. He's even got the Infinity Gems on his extra gloved hand.

Paint
Pretty simple, but very tight. I really only have two issues with it. It would have been cool if the Infinity Gems stood out a bit more (prighter paint, maybe?), and the soft "rubber" of his skirt causes the colors to look a tad faded. The mask that Death comes with has a really nice face painted on it. It's done very well.

Accessories
Thanos comes with a second, opened hand, with the Infinity Gems on the knuckles of the left hand. He also comes with an un-articulated Lady Death figure. She's pretty cool, and a llittle creepy. Death has a mask that can be put on her skeletal face, to make her look semi-human.

Overall
Thanos easily gets a 9.25 out of 10. Especially as a Marvel Select figure. The improvements on articulation (and character selection... it's not another Wolverine or Spidey) are really getting me to reconsider looking at this line in the future.
