Review - Thundercats Season 2, Volume 1

Thundercats Season 2, Volume 1 is due into stores April 18 from Warner Home Video and I was lucky enough to a copy of this set a little bit early. I tossed in the first DVD, grabbed my fellow Thundercats fans (my 2 & 5 year old daughters) and by 10:45 am we were headed back to third earth, the Thundercats theme song kicks in and feel like I’m 8 years old again.

To keep the shows fresh and interesting in the new season we get 3 new Thundercats (Pumyra, Ben Gali and Lynx-O) along with quite few new villains (Lunatacs, Berserkers and more) we start off with a 5 part (that’s right a 5 part episode, when is the last time we saw that?) in which Lion-O begins to get visions that three of his fellow Thunderians have survived the destruction of Thundera, he sets a plan in motion and the non-stop fun is off and running.

The transfer to DVD is nearing flawless, the picture and sound are great. The only disappointment in this set (along with the past releases) is that the artwork is just to plain for me, I think WHV (Warner Home Video) really missed out on making these look the best that they could. Seeing that past releases such as Batman The Animated Series (also from WHV) were so much more appealing to the eye, they definitely have the ability to do better.

The best thing about this set (along with the past Thundercats releases) is that I can pass along some of my favorite cartoons to my kids, they get to see a little bit of what Dad used to watch after I got home from school, plus it’s pretty cool to hear your two year little girl yelling “HOOOOOO!” during the opening theme song.

This set is the first half of the second season (also the final season) of the Thundercats; we get 34 episodes over 6 DVD’s which breaks down to about 12 hours for your viewing pleasure.
