Warner Home Video Super Tuesday

Would someone send a life-line? Last Tuesday marked the beginning for an all-out blitz everything Superman.

We were bombarded with 8, yes, count them, 8 new DVD releases all relating to Superman. Adventures of Superman Seasons 3 and 4; Animated series, vol. 3; Lois & Clark, season 3; Justice League, season 2; Superboy, season 1; Superman: Brainiac Attacks; Krypto Vol. 1; Look Up in the Sky-- A historic documentary. A whopping retail value of over $250! I hope you didn't want to buy any other non-necessities of life, like, food, rent, utilities, gas, Superman merchandise that is bombarding us all at once-- whether it be the Mattel toys, or, DC Direct props and statues.

It might not have been so bad, had they staggered this stuff out. Who in their right mind can afford to put out this much money all at once? Ok; so, I'm not in my right mind, but, even I had to be selective: pick and choose. And, maybe it wouldn't be so bad if Walmart hadn't started something so cool: "exclusive editions".

Sure, it wasn't so bad when Walmart did it. But, then Target had to get in on it, Best Buy, and I bet Ma & Pa cornerstore has their exclusives too. Again, unless we are crazed fans, or, earn Bill Gates salary on an annual basis, and must buy everything, we have to pick and choose. (I can help on one of the exclusives. The Look Up In The Sky Best Buy Exclusive-- Save $10 and buy the regular edition).

I am grateful for one thing: Warner Home Video did help some. You do get a bunch of free passes to see Superman Returns. This helps if you have a family of 8, and the ticket prices are $10. You can almost afford to buy the popcorn (but, you may still have to sneak in sodas).

For those who must get all (or most) like myself; and, can't (or, like myself, won't) wait til the prices drop to $5.50 or less at Walmart's bargain bins next month (oh I hope I'm kidding on this one) it pays to shop around. Best buy had the killer deal on the Adventures of Superman Season 2. Priced under $20-- everywhere else, close to $40. While I myself am boycotting Amazon, until they respect collectors and their buyers with proper shipping, I have to admit, they are the place to beat, when it comes to DVD pricing. Orders over $25 offer free shipping. Deep Discount.com offers discounts on DVDs as well. Not nearly as deep as they'd like you to think; but, sometimes one can save money there. Occasionally Best Buy actually lives up to it's name, and is a best buy.

Rare, but, it does happen. Boy was I surprised to see the Highlander series a few dollars cheaper there than Walmart! Oh; watch out for Sam's Club and Costco. Maybe on the bigger sets they might be cheaper; but, not on normal new releases. Walmart is still the place to beat at brick and mortar stores.

So, if you can't or won't wait to pick up the DVDs as you can, at least be picky as to where you buy them. You might be able to afford your groceries after all.

Stop by the new "Tim's Corner" forum to let him know what you think.
