Exclusive Interview with Mattel

We were the first to bring you images of this year's Mattel Summer Comic Con Exclusive figure of Solomon Grundy and now with only 21 days left until the San Diego Comic Con we had a change to talk to guys from Mattel to find out what we have to look forward to and to get your questions answered.

Superhero Times - How many total Solomon Grundy figures will be made for both San Diego Comic Con and Wizard World Chicago?

Mattel - 5000 in total will be made and split between San Diego and Chicago.

Superhero Times - Will Solomon Grundy be made available to mass market retail in the future?

Mattel - Very, Very, Very unlikely since the figure is much larger than the other figures in the JLU line. It would require new tooling for only one figure out of a whole product line.

Superhero Times - Will we be seeing more villains like the Cheetah in the JLU line? How long will the line last now that the show is over?

Mattel - We have planed the 2007 calendar year. We are now waiting to see if retailers will continue to support the line since they are currently buying for Spring 2007. We have not concerned the future of any line for 2008 and beyond. 2008 will be determined by the support in Spring 2007.

Superhero Times - What's the progress if any on acquiring the rights to producing other characters other than Superman/Batman related ones, such as the Flash,
Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, etc for the DC Superheroes line?

Mattel - Still working on it, and it is an on-going process with DC.

Superhero Times - Do you have any more information on the "Super Friends" line? Is this line still being planned or has it been canceled?

Mattel - It is in our plans and will most likely be fall of 2007. We can't comment any further.

Superhero Times - What is in the future for the DC Superheroes line? Will we see a "build a figure" type program from this line? Any new characters planned for
future waves?

Mattel - We had difficulties with the build-a-figure execution, and we are moving from that execution. We have planned our spring line, which will have new characters.

Superhero Times - Will the Horsemen sculpt a hyper articulated Nightwing for the DCSH line?

Mattel- Maybe in 2007....

Superhero Times - What are some of the new figures that will be on display during San Diego Comic Con?

Mattel - You'll have to come to San Diego and find out.

Superhero Times - Will see the new Arkham Asylum or Doomsday 6 pack on display?

Mattel - Yes, you will see both.

Superhero Times - Will any new characters be added to "The Batman" action figure line up?

Mattel - We will disclose at Comic Con. There will be new characters joining the Animated Series.
