Come February 16, 2007, Marvel fans will be treated to the theatrical version of Ghost Rider.
Starring motorcycle stunt rider Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage), the flick spins an action-packed tale of sealed promises, romantic ties and the search for one's soul.
Hasbro, under their newly acquired Marvel license, will deliver an extensive action figure line based on the film starring the fiery hero and his foes.
January 2007 launches the series with the Turbo Scream Flame Cycle and Ghost Rider and Cycle 2-Pack. A rip-cord Johnny Blaze and Ghost Rider vehicle assortment will tear into stores this month as well, along side the first two action figure releases: Racing Ghost Rider and Caretaker.
All hell breaks loose in February as Hasbro hails in the rest of their action figure line. Look for:
* Scarecrow
* Vengeance
* Blackheart
* Flame Fist Ghost Rider
* Chain Attack Ghost Rider
A wicked 12" Ultimate Ghost Rider and Cycle rounds out the ghoulish group.
Inside preview movie clips shown at Hasbro's SDCC "Vault Party" showed alot of promise. A deadpan Cage captured the dark mood the film seems to be going for and the (albeit mostly CG) action sequences had me wanting more. Applauds to
the Johnny-to-Ghost Rider transformation scene (a painful morph from flesh to bone) but I have to pan the weak villain design (Buffy the Vampire Slayer anyone?) Two flaming thumbs up for the demonic chopper concept.
