To Open or To Not Open?

To Open or To Not Open? That IS the Question

I'm a relatively newcomer when it comes to action figure collecting; about 7 years. But, in that time, I have somehow amassed a fairly large collection. Some of what I have has actually increased in value; some (most) has decreased. But, it's for enjoyment value I collect, so, it does not matter. Right?

Well, not so fast. Some items increase so rapidly, it's almost hard not to consider monetary value. Right?

Well, not so fast. Very few items increase enough to actually go into the business of reselling. So, here we are, going in circles. And, that is the motivating factor when people buy an item, and then are afraid to open an item for fear of losing value. What makes things worse is, almost everywhere you go, there's a huge debate amongst collectors. Sometimes so heated, it gets ugly.

Honestly, there is no real answer. Unlike some, I see both sides of the issue, and I agree and I disagree with points from each side. I'm not even intending to change anyone's mind; just pointing out the pro's and con's to each side.

Hit up the forums to read the rest and let Tim know what you think.
