Review - Monogram Marvel Paperweights

450-BlackSpiderMan-Front.jpg

The new Monogram Marvel paperweights will be hitting stores this month; series 1 includes Wolverine, Captain America and two versions of Spider-man (standard comic style and black symbiote suit). These are just the beginning of a vast line of planned Marvel products from Monogram for 2007.

These new collectibles are “paperweights” in name only as these are much more like affordable mini busts. This is a nice alterative to the higher priced items from other companies for the collector (like myself) on a budget. With a $15.00 price tag you could walk away with a full set of these at the same price as one bust from Diamond Select.

The clamshell packaging has been updated from the past Teen Titans and Justice League Unlimited style to make it much easier to open with a pull-tab on the back. With an easier ability to open the packages, it gives you just about instant access making it less likely that you will cut yourself on the plastic.

Overall a great product, however, the paint applications can be a little off from time and if you’re a real stickler for detail you might want to take a look at the different ones your local comic book stores has to offer. For example, the Captain America that I have could have used a little extra white paint on the star on his chest, that being said if you’re the type of person that just puts these guys up on your shelf for display and not everyday handling then you really have nothing to worry about.

If your having trouble finding these guys in your local comic book stores ask them to order them for you threw the Preview Catalog.
