Toy Biz’s final Marvel Legends assortments have introduced the extremely popular Build-A-Figure (BAF) pack-in with each figure. Hasbro, realizing a good idea when it’s looking them straight on, followed suit. The first series gave fans Annihilus. This time, they give us a popular X-Men villain: THE BLOB.

The mighty Blob is separated into EIGHT pieces to collect and build. The figures in this assortment are:

-She-Hulk

-Thor

-Ultimate Wolverine

-X3 Jean Grey

-Yellow Jacket

-Xorn

-Quicksilver

-X3 Juggernaut

Aside from what you feel about the individual figures, is The Blob worth going through the trouble to complete? Let’s find out.

PACKAGING: The Blob is divided as a pack-in with eight different figures, each on a thick card and bubble. The other individual figures have stats and bios on them so it’s too bad that there isn’t a pack-in bio for The Blob somewhere.

SCULPT: The sculpt for The Blob is actually pretty good. It’s a good size, standing taller than your average Legend, and of course much larger too. The costume is the standard costume most X-Fans should recognize.

The head sculpt though, while done quite well considering how fat this guy is, is perhaps a bit too jolly for my tastes. No, he doesn’t seem evil or sinister enough. Blob just looks like he is satisfied from clearing out two buffets rather than looking like he’s ready to fight.

PAINT: Hasbro molds colored plastic more often than painting the actual figure. What is painted though is decent. Some extra paint details would add a lot of depth to him, as a figure this large just looks very flat and well… it looks like a toy. It’s certainly not as bad as some of the other Hasbro Legends but it could use some extra detail even still.

ARTICULATION: The Blob has a decent array of articulation, totally over 20 points. This is a far cry from the usual 40 points we’ve seen on most Marvel Legends, but it’s tolerable. Missing articulation is in the knees. For Hasbro, fat folds is certainly more important than a knee joint.

As for the joints themselves, they are very tight and hold their position well.

ACCESSORIES: The Blob IS the accessory!

VALUE: As a pack-in that comes with EIGHT figures, The Blob comes at a high price: $80 without tax. So if you’re getting the Legends JUST for The Blob, it might be easier to try and buy a figure already put together. But if you buy ALL of the Legends no matter how bad they are, this figure is a great freebie.

OVERALL: X-Men villains are always welcome in my collection and Blob makes for a good addition. A large sturdy figure, the inclusion of the Blob certainly makes the other Legends easier to chew and swallow.
