Review- Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show

Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show - The Complete Series two disc DVD box set is available now in all major mass-market stores. This new set features 16 episodes will with the usual cast of Super Friend characters among them including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the introduction of a new hero… Firestorm.

The tone of the stories gets a bit more advanced in comparison to past Super Friends release as we see villains like Darkseid added to mix to bring a bit more of a challenge to our superheroes in these new episodes.

While it’s great to see the shows again that I grew up watching on Saturday mornings what makes this set really worth buying are the awesome special features.

We get 5 audio commentaries (The Wrath of Braniac, No Honor Among Thieves, The Mask of Mystery, The Case of the Dreadful Dolls and The Royal Ruse), along with the Evolution: New Heroes, Viler Villains and Ethnic Additions feature which gives a very insightful background on how new characters like Black Lighting were added in to give the show a larger appeal to kids of all races and colors.

Plus we can’t forget The Super Powers Collection: The Effect of the Toy Industry on the Super Friends feature, for toy geeks and children of the 80’s this one is for you. Team members behind show along with members of DC Comics staff and fans give an interesting look at the process it took to move from basic TV show to a full toy line from Kenner Toys.
