It's no secret that the collaborative team of Kids WB, Marvel, and Sony believe that next year's Saturday morning cartoon, The Spectacular Spider-man, is going to be a big hit. They've already planned double the original amount of ordered episodes and begun playing teaser commercials in Kids WB programming block.

In order to maximize awareness for Spidey's return to Saturday morning, the companies are launching a directly focused marketing push this fall. Your friendly neighborhood Spider-man will be on free posters and book covers distributed at schools in the top ten markets for the show and will appear on some 40 million milk cartoons at 85% of elementary schools across the U.S.

While the plan is obviously going to raise awareness for the coming cartoon, it's hard to determine if there will be fallout. Watch-dog groups may see this as an exploitation of the education system, bringing criticism to the companies involved. Of course, news reports against the campaign will still have everyone talking Spider-man, which is the whole idea behind the marketing push in the first place.
