Wolverine Film Gets Release Date In 2009

The standalone Wolverine film, now titled X-Men Origins: Wolverine, has an official release date: May 1st, 2009! Why the long wait? May is traditionally the best time of year to release an action movie, and since filming doesn't begin until later this year May of 2008 is out.

In the film, Hugh Jackman returns as the title character. Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, Rendition) is directing the script written by David Benioff (Troy, Stay). Those are the known facts. Speculation runs wild, including Liev Schreiber playing a young William Stryker and what it means that some of the shooting will take place in New Orleans (Gambit, anyone?).
