This Colonel America bust was a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive retailing for $45 and limited to 500 pieces.

Marvel Zombies unites grotesque gore with classic characters to create a new, but familiar take on Marvel’s finest. With the success of the comic, which follows the saga of the flesh-eating, former crimefighters, it was only a matter of time before hit collectibles retailed across the country. Since SDCC 2007, fans have been able to gorge themselves with great products from Diamond Select Toys. One such product, the 7” Colonel America Bust is about as gross as it gets... which of course means it's well worth every nickel you drop for it.

The packaging for old’ Colonel “A” is ugly enough to scare half the items off your shelf. It’s a closed box with the MOC collector in mind, showing exactly what lies within its cardboard walls. The box is sealed with a numbered, gold sticker. Once you carefully slice that and open the box, you’ll find the bust safely encased in a styrofoam holding unit, protecting it from the elements. Overall, this is solid packaging from DST.
Once you open Colonel America, proceed with caution. The piece is fragile, and the faux steel beam in front of the colonel WILL snap if you attempt to lift the bust by grabbing it. Once you get the bust out and on display, it will be difficult to decide which angle to put forward. Colonel America is highly detailed from all sides, captured in a very dynamic pose. He appears ready to lacerate someone's skull and scoop the brains out with his shield. DST has really done fantastic work here.

The Colonel’s paint apps are equally impressive. The entire bust has an appropriate dirty and worn look. From the Colonel’s shield to his base, he looks like a bloody mess. The colors are still bold, however, with his costume in perfect contrast to his base. The attention to his remaining eye and bones is especially noteworthy and truly highlights the piece’s level of detail.

The Colonel is holding his only accessory, his scuffed and worn shield, which is sculpted into the base. He includes a Certificate of Authenticity and a DST promotional insert as well. At $45 for a bust of this size and level of detail, collectors will certainly get bang-for-their-buck -- or gore-for-their-gold as the case may be. Zombie Colonel America is a fantastic piece for any bust collection; and for die-hard zombie enthusiasts, it’s a must have.
