In the past decade there has been an endless number of superhero related collectibles, ranging from action figures to statues. There is no doubt in my mind that most fans yearn for more female characters for their collections, mainly because of the lack of them on the market. Sideshow Collectibles has teamed up with Adam Hughes to help solve that problem in a lovely way.

The long awaited 2nd addition to the females of Marvel comiquette series has arrived! Based on the very sensual and beautiful art of Adam Hughes, comes Peter Parker’s red headed hottie: Mary Jane.

PACKAGING: As always, the creative folks at Sideshow have done a fantastic job on the design and look of the box. There are several close-ups of the statue from different angles featured all around the box as well a concept pencil sketch of the original drawing that inspired this excellent statue. There is a very eye catching yet subtle logo with MJ’s name and Adam Hughes initials in bold red on the top left corner. The package alone will make collectors more desperate to open and display the ultra sexy collectible snuggled inside.

PAINT: The word “high end collectible” means nothing but the best quality. This statue is painted with the utmost attention to detail and the airbrush technique used on Mary Jane's skin gives it a very life-like look. The only flaw I noticed on the production piece was in the color of Spider-Man’s outfit. You can clearly see in the photos on the outside of the box that the suit was originally blue and red with black webbing. Apparently Sideshow decided to change the colors to black and red instead. Since I’m a big Spider-Man fan, I wanted my classic colors of blue and red. It also would have added some extra contrast to the piece, but as it stands, it's still pleasing.

SCULPT: This comiquette is excellently crafted and is incredibly detailed, although I would have preferred it to look a little more like Adam Hughe’s illustration. Something about the original design resembled more of a "down home country girl" and MJ's body was much more voluptuous. The Sideshow sculpt looks more like a slimmed-down Jenny Craig version of the original design. Don't get me wrong, it still looks fantastic!

The fact that the sculpt is not identical to the original art does not take away from the excellent craftsmanship demonstrated on this piece by Sideshow. It's a sexy piece, and it shows in every sculpted curve.

DESIGN & ASSEMBLY: This statue is very simple to assemble for display and there are no incredibly delicate pieces that can easily break. Mary Jane’s body has a metal rod that sticks out from under her feet which easily inserts into a hole found on the base.

The bucket with Spider-Man’s outfit magnetically attaches to the base of the table, which is great because it avoids possible breakage. However, you have to play around a bit with her hands and outfit piece for it to look like she is holding it just so. My recommendation is to place the bucket piece on the tabletop first and then attach the body to the base so you can align the hands properly without damaging the statue’s finger tips.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: The Mary Jane comiquette is perhaps one of the sexiest female statues ever produced by Sideshow, perhaps by anyone. With its vivid combination of dynamic sculpting, ultra risqué pose, impeccable paint application and eye catching packaging, this statue will be the envy of all your peers... and/or jealousy of your ladylove.

The Mary Jane comiquette is limited to 2000 pieces and retails for $124.99. She is currently sold out on Sideshow's website, though one can still hope to acquire her on their . For other purchasing avenues, try our fine sponsors listed above.
