Comics continue to be a strong source of revenue for publishers in 2007, as
Diamond Distribution's results for October 2007 showed a 20% increase in revenues for single comics and 6% increase for
TBP/Graphic Novels. Overall growth was up 17%, and the reason for the increase was surprising. According to Diamond, the strengthened sales were not due to big heavy-hitters on top of the high seller lists but rather a stronger performance by those at the bottom. This should encourage readers of the secondary characters and indies that don't top the sales charts each month. Strong, steady performance is the primary reason books continue to be published, and these numbers could guarantee renewal of many smaller properties.
