After months of rumors and false-starts, Warner Bros.' adaptation of DC's superhero team, The Justice League of America has been put on hold indefinitely. Originally held for the writer's strike, the film was still planned for production in 2008 with a spring release in 2009. Hollywood trades now report that the option for the film has lapsed and, as a result, the movie cannot be made by Warner Bros. at present.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. has told the cast that they fully intend to make the film at some point, but due to the strike and the loss of the option, the production start date cannot be planned. Given these developments, it is highly unlikely that the JLA film will reach theaters at any point in 2009, if at all.
