Microsoft has confirmed that Marvel Comics' MMO (massive multiplayer online) game is officially dead. Originally announced in September 2006, Marvel's MMO was planned for release prior to 2010; but at present, the title will not be launched at all.
Development ended due to the belief that the subscription-based Marvel game would not generate the profits to warrant the game's maintenance. The only definitive success of the subscription-based MMO market at present is World of Warcraft, the revenues of which would not be likely matched, even by a universe as known as Marvel's. The decision to finally end development of the game was a friendly and civil agreement made by all parties involved.
