Forsooth, what power be at work in these pages! The Mighty Thor: Visionares, Volume 1 by Walt Simonson doth both move and amuse. Verily I say unto thee, give to thine eyes the gift of the Asgardian’s adventures, from his fabled affair with the seductress Loralei, to his courageous conflicts against and alongside the galactic warrior known as Beta Ray Bill. Hath thou not heard, nor seen, these great tales, then hasten quickly to thy nearest purveyor of parchments and purchase for thyself then this gift!

SHT_GN_4_Thor.jpgTis the work of this Simonson, gifted herald of Asgard, that shall introduce thee well to realm of the gods and the many perils which befall them. Be thee a fan of Loki? Surely the mischief wrought in these pages by the sinister stepson of Odin will please thee. How now thy love of great beasts and creatures? Look no further than these grand fables, in which the mighty Thor doth undo demons, hell hounds, and a burrowing dragon alike. Give thy eye and read, that I may give to thee an altogether unworthy and abridged account of The Mighty Thor, Visionaries, Volume 1.

The tale begins in a realm unknown, beyond our own, where evil lurks and doth forge in secret, a mighty blade. The sound of “Doom” resonates with its making, and millions of miles from that dark workman’s anvil, we come upon a man, Donald Blake, who is also called Thor, god of thunder and son of the all-father Odin. This man, then, is called to duty by friend and well-known agent of adventure, Nick Fury, who doth summon Thor for a quest against an alien ship--one which houses the intergalactic warrior Beta Ray Bill. Through a series of battles and contests, Thor and Bill go from foes to friends, each with his own hammer of Uru, forged by dwarves and given thusly by Odin in the grand halls of Asgard. Were this not enough to entice thee, this tale continues with constant conflicts, as Thor battles Fafnir, the dragon king of Nastrond; but not before he finds a hidden Viking village and unites with an elderly warrior. And beyond this, doth Thor journey on, besting the demonic dogs of the Malekith, the Dark Elf, as they pursue the son of Odin and a mortal in possession of the fabled Casket of Ancient Winter, a sordid Pandora’s box which can be used to unleashed The Great and Terrible SURTUR, bearer of the aforementioned mighty blade of Doom.

SHT_GN_Thor2.jpgShould not these tales ensnare thee, be not so brash to forego the story of the Odinson, for other fables are in these pages. Gird thy loins and follow Balder the Brave through his quest to renew his warrior’s spirit! Or follow Sif, Thor’s Asgardian lover, as she is pitted against a mighty giant dwarf; then carry on with her as she aids Thor and Bill in their galactic battles against the demon hordes of deep space!! And be treated, also, to the quest of Agnar of Vanaheim, who wishes to prove himself a champion!

Indeed these pages are a parade of varied and honorable adventures. Join Thor, Volstagg the Enormous, Beta Ray Bill, Loralei the Seductress, Loki, Balder, and more as they fight throughout Asgard and the realms beyond. Gather your gold and partake of this feast for your eyes, lest ye miss Thor’s valiant victories against Malekith, Fafnir and other foes from Asgard and the realm beyond!

Walt Simonson’s The Mighty Thor, Visionaries Volume contains issues #337- #344 of The Mighty Thor, by Marvel Comics.
