It seems Lionsgate has confidence Frank Miller's film based on Will Eisner's 'The Spirit', according to Variety.

The film, starring Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes, has been given a new release date of December 25th, 2008. The date was moved up from January 16th, 2009.
