Secret Invasion issue 2 does exactly what a follow-up issues should do. It answers a few questions. It asks a lot more questions. It thickens the plot. And most importantly, enhances your excitement towards the next issue.

The spaceship full of Skrull doppelgangers turned out to not be completely full of Skrulls, still leaving you to wonder who is the true character of the Marvel Universe and who is a Skrull. We also get to see Tony Stark thinking on his feet, since the armor he's relied upon is now refusing to function thanks to a Skrull virus. And the Young Avengers find themselves as the only avaliable heroes in downtown NYC, watching helplessly as the Fantastic Four's Baxter Building disappears into the Negative Zone.

Leinil Francis Yu's artwork is a joy. It doesn't conform to the Marvel house style that seemed to overtake everything just a few years ago. The characters look great and even the 'older' versions look right at home next to their contemporary counterparts.

The seeds that Brian Michael Bendis has been sewing are bearing fruit in a grand manor and each page seems to bring something else exciting and new. Granted, a few too many pages are filled with shots of fists flying, and did we really need a two page spread of a dinosaur? Still though, the story has enough pay-offs to satisfy and the Marvel blockbuster rolls on.
