Did anyone hear about the movie studio and the director of the studio’s first major hit and how they’re no longer getting along because of - gasp - money?
No? Well neither did I…
Rumors running rampant
on the internet over the last 24 hours put Marvel Studios and
Iron Man film director Jon Favreau at a standstill regarding negotiations which would see Favreau back in the director’s chair for the blockbuster’s sequel because of a money issue.
I'll avoid details, but while Marvel – on their own –may be new to the film
industry, they sure as heck aren't stupid. Take for instance the Spider-Man series over at Columbia and how the studio and
Marvel were keen enough to keep Sam Raimi and crew on board for all three Spider-man films. This gave the films a sense of continuity and Marvel learned from the experience. Likewise – and in case you hadn’t heard – there’s another little Marvel film coming out this Friday entitled The Incredible Hulk. Marvel seemingly has its collective mind elsewhere at the moment as is no doubt hoping for two major blockbusters this summer. While Iron Man 2 remains important to the studio (and to fans as is obvious by the amount of scuttlebutt these rumors alone are causing), it’s safe to assume Marvel Studios has plans above and beyond what we mere mortals can understand…
While we won’t even attempt to assume we know what either Marvel or Favreau have supposedly disagreed upon, we’re sure both have heard the old adage 'If it ain't broke don't fix it'. Let’s at least hope Marvel
Studios follows this creed...
Personally, I say give the man the money he's wants and let him make the studio even richer which in turn will hopefully mean even more Marvel movies at the box office.
