At this years Wizard World Chicago we here at Superherotimes.com got a chance to see one of the nations best comic book conventions in all it’s glory!
We wrap up our coverage of the convention today with a look at two companies and our thoughts on the convention in general so let’s begin with a look at what Diamond Comics had on display this year! <p.

Diamond Comics had some great items displayed this year, but the thing that really caught our eyes were the new Mini-mates on display! The Invaders box set coming out this July look amazing and consists of World War 2 versions of Captain America and Bucky, Namor and the original robotic Human Torch! We also glanced upon a series of Star Trek Mini-mates featuring Sisko, Kirk and several others which looked amazing in person.

We moved on and took a look at the Mego inspired Planet of the Apes figures coming out which looked great. They are dead on re-creations of the old Mego styled POA figures which were released in the 70’s. These are going to be great for collectors and fans alike!

Diamond also had on hand some new Marvel Select figures, the most impressive of which were the Ultimate Thor and Iron Man they had displayed! Both these figures are going to be great additions to any fans collection; and the level of detail appear to be simply amazing!
We also came across a small sampling from MacFarlane Toys which was quite surprising to find but made sense as Todd himself made an appearance at the convention with his fellow Image Comics co-founders.

Set up in the display was not only a new Elvis figure but also some upcoming releases of the wildly popular and hard to find Halo line. Shown were many of the offerings for series 2 and series 3 as well as the extremely awesome looking 12 inch Master Chief!
Overall, the convention was a lot of fun but seemed a bit lacking in toy presence. There was no Hasbro or Mattel booth which was strange but when you consider that San Diego Comic Con International is really a few short weeks away it begins to make sense.
Wizard has always said that Chicago is the flagship of their conventions and they proved it this year with a lot of really cool special guests and events such as the Image founders coming together for the first time in years and the premiere of Batman: Gotham Knights!
If you want to attend the convention next year, be sure to mark your calendars as the convention dates have once again been moved back to August! The dates for next year’s convention, to be held once again as the amazing Donald E. Stephens Convention Center are August 6 through the 9th!
Be sure to attend one of the premier events in North America next year because you never know what Wizard has up its sleeves for 2009!
