Unlike some other 3 ¾ inch figure lines, the Infinite Heroes are not without their share of female characters. The DC universe is chock-full of fantastic superheroines and villains, so it was fitting then that Mattel included so many women in the first few sets of three packs.
While some of Mattel’s 3 ¾ inch DC Universe Infinite Heroes Three Packs have obvious themes, others do not. Take, for example, three pack #4 containing Starfire, Raven, and Captain Boomerang. Three great figures, but a seemingly odd choice of bedfellows. Starfire and Raven are, of course, best known for their exploits with the Teen Titans, a sort of junior Justice League in the DC Comics universe, while Captain Bommerang is a Flash rogue.
As one of the original three packs in the Infinite Heroes line, it set the standard for what was to come. All of the three packs in the current series share the same packaging, a wide, flat box designed to stand up on toy shelves.

The front of the box is a full-panel window showing the figures inside and the insert of the hand behind them. The box is decorated just like the single cards, with a yellow burst background and the blue DC Universe Infinite Heroes logo. At the bottom of the window are the names of the figures, the current series name (Crisis), and the set’s number, 4. The back of the box is also just like the single cards, with a variety of other available figures and blocks of biographical and statistical data.

Starfire has had an interesting history of portrayals. While some may know her as the naïve girl from the television show, in the comics she was a very mature character who even goes around kissing guys in order to assimilate their languages telepathically. The Starfire figure shows off the character in all of her glory, buxom and scantily clad. The typical Infinite Heroes female body has long legs, thin waist, large chest, and thin arms, with individually-sculpted heads. Starfire exemplifies this design strategy.

Starfire’s sculpt is good. Her body is standard with painted details, but her head is very nice. The princess’ face is unique, with enormous eyes, sculpted eyebrows, and full lips. One of her defining characteristics is of course her enormous trail of hair, which is reproduced here in a large piece that stretches down past her knees. Color-wise, Starfire has orange skin and purple clothing in the form of thigh-high boots, gloves, and a type of cut-out one piece that exposes a lot of skin. Additional painted details include silver and red on the clothing, bright green eyes, purple lipstick, and brown hair in a gradient from dark to light.

Utilizing the standard female body shape, Starfire has the minimum eight points of articulation at the neck, shoulders, torso, V-cut hips, and knees. There’s not a whole lot of different ways to pose her, but she looks great as is and with her arms extended for flight or fight. Like all of the female figures in this line, Starfire comes with a display stand that has one post. She stands very well on it and can be posed even better that way.

Next to her more fiery friend, Raven looks downright goth. Appearing as she did during the “One Year Later” storyline, her costume has some nice intricacies. Overall, she’s a dark vision in full-body outfit with cloak and hood. She has some unique sculpted elements in the form of large cuffs on her gloves and boots, and heels on the bottom of the latter. The cloak and hood are all one huge piece of firm plastic. There are some nice folds and creases here, with a convoluted wrap around her neck held together by a large gemstone. Raven’s face is serene, with heavy-lidded eyes and a small mouth.

Most of the Raven figure is a deep, dark purple that covers both her clothing and her cloak. Her midriff is decorated with a gold chain holding three red spheres, and on her chest is a large raven symbol in light blue. The gemstone at her collar matches the spheres on her belt, blood red in a gold setting. Raven’s face is stark white with a bright red gem in her forehead, purple lips, and dark eyebrows and eyeliner.

Like Starfire, Raven has the same basic eight points of articulation and no separate accessories other than the display stand.

The odd man out in this group is Captain Boomerang. He’s about as different as a standard human figure can get in the Infinite Heroes line. While most share common body parts and are only differentiated by their heads, Captain Boomerang is mostly unique.

The boomerang master wears a heavy outfit containing his diverse weaponry from head to toe. The sculpt here is excellent, and one of the best in the entire line. The Captain’s heavy pants, belt, and vest hold no fewer than twenty boomerangs, and on his large boots are four more! Sadly, none of these boomerangs are removable, just decoration. Wrapped around the figure’s neck is a thick scarf that billows out next to his head in a perpetual wind. Finally, Boomerang’s head has a very good sculpt with an angry expression, beard, and detailed hair.

As a stealthy long-range combatant, Captain Boomerang is dressed mostly in black. The only color on his clothing is a dull green on the front of his boots and his belt buckle. Don’t think he’s not without color, though, for all of those twenty-four boomerangs are a very light tan wooden color, and his scarf a shocking blue. The devilish Mercer is also a red head with green eyes. Captain Boomerang has the standard ten points of articulation at neck, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, and knees. He doesn’t have quite the full range of motion though, as his bulky vest impedes the arms a bit and the belt prevents the hips from moving too far back. The figure has no accessories.

Starfire, Raven, and Captain Boomerang are quite a diverse and motley mix of figures. Their different looks complement one another, and all are very good figures. The two ladies are perfect for starting a collection of Titans (and there are several more available and coming soon), and are great examples of female superheroes. Captain Boomerang is just plain cool with all of his weapons and floating scarf, but you’ll probably want to find something for him to hold. All are great additions to an Infinite Heroes collection!
