REVIEW: Blade Vs Dracula Diorama

With its vast offering of polystone busts, dioramas and premium format pieces, the Marvel product line has been a huge success for Sideshow Collectibles. The Marvel diorama line has offered many collectors the chance to own their very own three dimensional sculpture of several climactic battles between heroes and villains. Perhaps one of the most visually stunning and creative pieces in the line is the Blade Vs Dracula Diorama. While Blade may not be as popular as other Marvel characters, this is one hell of a statue!

PACKAGING: This awesome collectible is housed within a decorative multi-colored outer box which features several images of the statue and unique logo. The box is surrounded with photographs of the polystone diorama from different points of view and character bio information. Unlike the piece itself, the box is very tall which gives the perception that the statue is much larger than its true scale. Sideshow has done an incredible job in regards to the package design and execution which will easily draw the attention of any collector.

SCULPT: At first glance, this statue looks like just another three dimensional battle between good and evil but in reality there is so much more to it. Blade features costume elements from both the comics and the feature films. One particular detail that stands out on Blade is the fact that his sunglasses are made of a tinted plastic which adds realism to the piece. Blade is posed in the heat of battle plunging one of his swords into Dracula's stomach as he climbs the steps of a swirling staircase. Blade features detailed battle wounds and an amazing portrait sculpt along with extra gun and two pairs of interchangeable right hands (one with a gun and another holding an additional sword).

The folks at Sideshow really let their creative juices flow on Dracula's design by rendering the iconic creature in a winged semi-human/semi-bat form which looks incredible. The creature's massive clawed-hands and feet feature incredible details such as the stone-like texture of its claws. Dracula's massive wings feature an amazing amount of detail and are molded out of a translucent material which creates the effect of real bat wings. Upon close inspection of Dracula's right leg, it seems that it is completely made up of hundreds of rats which are ascending from the edge of the staircase.

The diorama also features a lighting element which creates the illusion of two conquered vampires which are burning into ash. Both of these details enhance the piece incredibly and help set it apart from other Marvel dioramas. The staircase also features ancient carvings of Dracula and his victims on the outer wall.

PAINT: This truly unique diorama also features an amazingly detailed paint job. The wings on Dracula are decorated exquisitely well with a mix of solid and translucent colors. The details on the incinerated vampires are highlighted incredibly well and enhance the burning effect look whether the light is switched on or off. The details on Dracula and Blade are painted beautifully with a broad pallet of vivid colors which make both of the characters come to life. The spiral staircase features a blend of natural colors which helps give it a realistic stony look. Overall, the paint application and techniques on this already impressive piece are flawlessly rendered and make this statue a visually dynamic and colorful work of art.

OVERALL: Although this piece was released in 2008, it is one of the most unique and visually amazing Marvel dioramas that Sideshow Collectibles has produced. I am very surprised that this statue has not sold as well as other Marvel dioramas and I believe that many collectors may have over looked how great a collectible this is. Luckily, this piece is still available as a on Sideshow Collectible's website and also qualifies for gift card discounts.

Considering its original retail price which is just fifty bucks shy of
four hundred dollars, this is a great opportunity for those who regret not having bought this piece before. Whether you are a fan of Blade or Marvel, this is a must-have piece that will enhance anyone's collection.
